It regulates organ size, cell proliferation, tumorigenesis, and apoptosis. Under conditions of cell stress, such as oxidative damage, MST2 is cleaved by caspase-3, and is irreversibly autophosphorylated at Thr180. Activated MST2 forms a stable complex with STK3 and triggers a signaling cascade which inhibits the translocation of YAP1 to the nucleus and consequent suppression of YAP1-mediated apoptosis.
