RalBP1 activity may be controlled by PKC-alpha-mediated phosphorylation and it is thought to be a key LTC(4) transporter in cancer cells. It has been shown that RalBP1 is an effector of R-Ras and in turn has a role to play in regulation of cell proliferation, migration and apoptosis. RalBP1 has also been implicated in mediating drug-resistance in certain cancers, such as lung. It has been thought of as a potential target in treating leukemia.
