Like other members of this family, synaptotagmin 3 contains a single transmembrane domain and C2 calcium-sensing domains which bind both calcium and phospholipids. The role of synaptotagmin 3 is not well understood; however, previous studies have indicated that SYT3 may play a role in insulin release in pancreatic β cells.
