It may stabilize interactions between hyaluronan (HA) and brain proteoglycans. Two isoforms exist, with isoform 1 (~99 kDa) being highly expressed from birth through 8 years of age and down-regulated by 20 years of age to low levels that are maintained in the normal adult cortex; and isoform 2 (~72 kDa) being expressed at uniformly low levels throughout development.
