View All» Background Information: NLR family member X1 (NLRX1) belongs to the Nod-like receptor (NLR) family of proteins, a group of proteins characterized by their highly conserved nucleotide binding domain (NBD) and their leucine-rich-repeats (LRR). NLRX1 is the only member of this family localized to mitochondria, where it plays a role in antiviral signaling by blocking virus-induced interaction of RLH-MAVS, serving as a negative regulator of the antiviral responses mediated by MAVS. It also serves to up-regulate NF-Kappa-B and JNK-dependent signaling cascades as its overexpression induces reactive oxygen species (ROS).
