The CTD also serves to regulate the capping enzyme and has the ability to remove the Ser5 phosphate which is linked to the release of the capping enzyme from the capping complex. mRNA capping enzyme has a variety of other functions during transcription including; stabilization of polymerase II, activation of early elongation and reduction of re-initiation.
