View All» Modifications: Phosphorylation View All» Background Information: CLASP1 (Cytoplasmic linker associated protein 1) is part of an evolutionarily conserved class of proteins known as microtubule plus-end-tracking proteins (+TIPs). This class of proteins is associated with the growing microtubule ends during mitosis. In mammals, two homologs of CLASP have been identified; CLASP1 and CLASP2. They are involved in the organizing the orientation of microtubule networks during both interphase and mitosis. CLASP1 is expressed in the outer portion of the kinetochore corona during early prometaphase and continuing through to anaphase. Required for the polarization of the cytoplasmic microtubule arrays in migrating cells towards the leading edge of the cell.
