Through the immunoprecipitation of these protein-DNA complexes, associated sequences are pulled out of solution for analysis on DNA microarrays. Using high quality antibodies, post-translational modifications to these sequences can also be detected. The combination of ChIP and promoter or genomic tiling microarrays allows genome-wide identification of DNA-binding sites for chromatin-associated proteins with precise resolution at a variety of locations.
