Full length ANGPTL4 circulates in the plasma as do its proteolytically cleaved coiled coil and fibrinogen-like domains. ANGPTL4 promotes an increase in circulating triglyceride levels by directly inhibiting lipoprotein lipase. ANGPTL4 expression is induced by fasting and hypoxia but suppressed in type 2 diabetes.
