The antibody has also been described in the literature as the "MYS" antibody. The antibody detects ASCT1 by immunohistochemistry in sections of formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissues of human origin. In general, there is weak, and rarely strong, positive ASCT1 immunostaining in many normal cell types. By contrast, strong ASCT1 staining is detectable in many human cancers including those of the colon, lung, esophagus, and breast. Whereas ASCT1 overexpression is associated with better survival in non-small cell stage I lung carcinomas, it is associated with worse survival in carcinomas of the esophagus. Sections are then incubated at room temperature for 2 hours with 5 μg/mL dilution of AB8901 in 0.1% BSA in PBS, pH 7.4. the bound antibody can be detected using any of the commercially available detection kits.
