View All» Background Information: NLRPs (Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain, Leucine rich Repeat and Pyrin domain containing Proteins) are members of NLR (Nod-like receptors) protein family. NRLP genes are known to play important roles in both the mammalian reproductive system and the innate immune system. Several NRLP genes are specifically expressed in mammal oocytes. Through multiprotein complexes called inflammasomes, NRLP proteins are through to activate proinflammatory caspases. In humans, NRLP7 mutations are found to cause a recurrent hydatidiform of molar pregnancies, stillbirths, spontaneous abortions, and intrauterine growth retardation.
