WASH contains three specific domains: a C-terminal VCA domain, a proline-rich domain, and an N terminal region containing two WASH homolog regions, WHD1 and WHD2. Although WASH has yet to be completely characterized, it is known to function as an NPF at the endosomal surface, where it is involved in the recruitment and subsequent activation of Arp2/3 in order to initiate actin polymerization.
