Perylene是一种高亮度的且对公极其稳定的多环芳烃(PAH)类荧光染料，其量子产率接近理想化。

因其很短的荧光期，这种探针没有激发态。

因其较低的溶解度和很少量的活性衍生物，Perylene标记生物分子通常比较困难且不太容易实现。然而，通过点击化学使用这种perylene azide来进行标记就变得和其他染料一样非常容易。使用这种多环芳烃染料标记多肽、DNA、蛋白等从未如此轻松。

为了提高其亲水性和标记成功率，这种PAH azide包含亲水三甘醇链。
